Husqvarna 240 2 HP Chainsaw (16-Inch) Review

If you are looking for a medium capacity chainsaw for those small cutting, trimming or pruning jobs, then this is the model for you. This chainsaw is accompanied by a 38cc engine.

The reason this model is perfect for beginners is because of its lightweight design. With a weight of 10.3 lbs, you won’t get fatigued, particularly when working on projects for longer periods of time.

Pros

  • Lightweight for beginners
  • Anti-vibration dampers for protecting your hands and arms
  • Centrifugal air cleaning system helps remove dirt

Cons

  • Hard to start – might take a few tries
  • Not powerful enough for larger projects
  • Issues with chain falling off at times

Features and benefits

Husqvarna 240 2 HP chainsaw is perfect for tasks like light cutting, pruning, and hobby work. It is simple to start and operate, due to various features like its powerful X-Torq engine with low emissions and ergonomic design.

Air Injection

This model boasts a centrifugal and air injection air cleaning system which ultimately gets rid of any debris and dust particles before it reaches the air filter. This mean you won’t have to clean the air filter that often and it also prolongs the life of your engine.

X-Torq®

If you are environmentally friendly, then you will love this feature. The Husqvarna 240 2 HP chainsaw has a lower level of fuel consumption and there is a reduction in emission levels. This means this model meets the standards of some of the strictest environmental guidelines.

Combined choke/stop control

Thanks to the combined choke and stop control, it now lets you start the chainsaw with ease and engine flooding is significantly reduced.

Easy Start-up

It may take a few tries, but by reading the instruction manual, you should be able to start the chainsaw with ease. Only thing to avoid is pressing the primer bulb too many times to avoid engine flooding.

Low kickback bar and chain

The saw offers increased stability, thanks to its low kickback bar and chain; this also helps in reducing vibration. Normally if a chainsaw has a lot of vibration, your cutting will appear rough and serrated. It also tends to wear your arms and hands out if there is a lot of vibration, but this is not the case with the Husqvarna 240 2 HP chainsaw.

Design and Construction

This is definitely one of their more attractive models; it is well-constructed with injection molded plastic and metal.

To avoid accidental start-ups, it comes with a ‘’throttle lock out’’ which is positioned at the top of the handle. Near the throttle trigger, there is also a hand guard to safeguard your hand. A half-warp handle is positioned behind the hand guard which functions as a chain brake.

You will also find the chainsaw is designed with a few anti-damper springs located in various places. These cleverly absorb and direct any vibration away from the handles.

Engine

It is equipped with a 38.2cc X-Torq engine which enables the chainsaw to reduce the emissions given off whole operating and the engine is designed for lower fuel consumption. The engine is able to provide a top speed of up to 9,000 revs a minute. This is quite low for heavy cutting projects but this won’t be an issue for light cutting tasks that have to be done.

Alternatives

While the Husqvarna 240 2 HP Chainsaw is a great option for light cutting tasks, here are two alternatives that are worth a look.

First up is the Tanaka 14 inch which boasts a 32.2cc engine which offers a lower fuel consumption and is definitely a powerful option. No problem with starting it either thanks to its half throttle choke. Adjusting the chain won’t be a problem since it comes with access to chain tensioning which provides easy chain adjustment.

Poulan P3816

Like with many chainsaws, the Poulan P3816 comes with a case and also includes an air purge bulb. It doesn’t have a tool-free chain tensioner like the Husqvarna 240 2 HP chainsaw; however, it does have a built-in chain tensioner positioned near the bar that is easy to access. Only thing is you actually have to remove the screws to get to the air filter. The oil and fuel caps have large grips but the only downside is there are is vibration dampening connected to the handles, which the Husqvarna 240 offers.

Conclusion

Husqvarna 240 2 HP chainsaw has proven to be one of the best chainsaws for trimming or light tasks. It’s a multi-purpose tool which saves you from having to purchase multiple tools for different tasks. It has gone through vigorous testing to ensure the effectiveness of the unit. If you are looking for a chainsaw that won’t fatigue you, has low emissions, and will handle light tasks with ease, then you need to check the Husqvarna 240.
